The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency began sampling the major reservoirs in Kentucky in 1973 as a part of the National Eutrophication Survey. Following enactment of the Clean Water Act, the Kentucky Division of Water established a network of lake and reservoir stations from 1981 to 1983. By 1984, there were 73 lakes/reservoirs in the state program. From 1998-2018 the DOW sampled lakes using a Watershed Management Framework Initiative approach where 108 lakes were sampled every five years by basin management unit (BMU). |
